Flexibility: 2nd Stage Loaders

Notes:

What a MBR cannot do (because it has
no complexity) can be achieved by
using a second stage loader. For MS
operating systems, this is usually in
the boot sector of a partition; that is, in
the first 512 bytes of a partition. LILO
and GRUB have larger stage 2
programs. In some cases, stage 2
loaders may load one or more further
stages.
